Combined Census Data & Boundary Data

Please note that the census data for England and Wales is the initial rounded data, we will update this with the unrounded data in the future.

We have combined data from the Office for National Statistics (England and Wales) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency in this file as we believe the two agencies’ definitions of population base to be comparable. However, we advise you to refer to the definitions included.

The England and Wales boundaries on this page were provided to us from the Office for National Statistics. They were provided in Shapefile format and we have converted them into other formats for the convenience of our users. We have added some extra data like metropolitan counties – this is to give users complete coverage.

At present there are no openly available boundary datasets for Northern Ireland, so we have sourced boundary data from http://www.gadm.org/ that are available to use under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non-commercial-Share Alike. The official boundaries are available to staff and students of UK Further and Higher education institutions from UKBORDERS.

Each zipped up file contains a readme, please read this for further information. We are working on creating additional files.
